Blawg.com

This is a list of legal related blogs or blawgs (Blawg, n, a weblog with emphasis on the law or legal related issues and concerns, often maintained by an individual who studies, practices or otherwise works in the legal field.)

The reason I like this site is because they are serious about having "legitimate" blawgs that talk about legal topics.  It is not a place for lawyer bashing or associate whining.

46 Best-Ever Free Utility Programs

On the site, Gizmo Richard's Tech Support Alert  lists 46 of the best-ever free utility programs.  I am not sure how that determination is made but some of these might help if you have a problem and don't know where to look.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success.
If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

Disaster Planning

While it may be too late for many of the attorneys and law firms devastated by Hurricane Katrina, there can be a lesson here for all attorneys regarding disaster planning. A disaster need not been so widespread for it to be ruinous to your practice. In fact, if only a few firms were destroyed by fire or flood, courts may not be so forgiving.
It is critical to plan now for what to do to prevent being put out of business if you are hit with a disaster.
Listed are sites that provide some guidance on disaster planning:

            ABA Technology Resources for Disasters

Thought for the Week of July 25, 2005

To worry is like rocking in a rocking chair.  It gives you something to do, but gets you nowhere.

Everybody Loves A Bargin
Two good sites for bargins are Deal University and Woot.  Both are very different from each other.  At Deal University, you can find discounts on all types of products.  While at Woot, there is only one product a day.  Today's item (July 25) is 600 sheets of HP Glossy Photo Paper for $49.00 plus $5.00 shipping.  Each day will be a different item.

Find Out What Information Is On the Internet About You

More and more potential clients are using the internet to search about information about lawyers and law firms.  If your firm has an website, then it is possible for potential clients and referral sources to find information about you at the site.
However, there is much more information about you floating around cyberspace.  I suggest that you go to Google and type in your name or the name of your firm to see what other information clients, referral sources and potential clients can find about you.
You should also go to Google and then click on Google Groups.  Again enter your name and see if anything comes up.  This searches all the 700 million Usenet postings since 1981 to the present.  Think you never sent a message to a Usenet group.  Are you sure?
I entered my name and it turns out that at 3:00 AM on September 10, 1996, I sent a message to a Garden List giving advice on how to transplant Black-eyed Susans.   Fortunately that is the only time I ever posted to a group.  I suggest that you see if you posted anything.  Do not be so sure that you didn't.

Are You a Museum Junkie?

A great site for information about museums all over the world is at www.museumstuff.com.  It lists over 22,000 museums by location and topic.  Take a look to see what is available at your next vacation destination.
